My love affair with the West Highland White Terrier goes way
back to my childhood, when we had a Scottish Terrier, and I can
always remember commenting "but I want a white one!"
It was a long wait though as my first Westie did not arrive until
1990, called Laddie. He was to be followed quickly by a further
male dog, Hamish, who as a puppy was a real escapologist and used
all the nine lives of my cat! It was only two years later that
I decided I wanted a female dog so that I could breed from her.
Jessie arrived in 1993, but after four unsuccessful attempts at
mating, Maisie (Strawberry Smile at Drambrodie) arrived on the
scene in 1998. The Drambrodie name was born.
Maisie had her first litter in January 2001. Her second litter
was born in early December 2002, which produced the latest addition,
Islay, (Drambrodie Gaelic Heart). Maisie delighed us with just the one pup in her litter born on 29th July 2004.
Islay's first litter of seven arrived on 10th August 2004. From this litter, Iona (Drambrodie on the West Side) joined the household.
Caillie (Karmarny Flower of the West at Drambrodie) joined the household in May 2007 and delights all around her. Caillie followed in the steps of Iona and Islay in qualifying for Crufts.
Iona had her second litter in October 2008 and Archie (Gaelic Spirit) then joined the household. He starts very soon in his quest to follow in his gradmother's paw prints in qualifying for Crufts. Hopefully, Iona has produced a puppy to take the name of the Drambrodie Westies on a litle further.
As a newcomer to the world of showing and breeding of Westies,
I am indebted to the numerous people who have both encouraged
me and been on hand for advice.
